New research on Vibrators
Who uses sex toys? Are you one of those people who think it’s a little bit naughty, something you would like to try but aren’t too sure about?Previous data collected on the use of vibrators tends to come from sex toy manufacturers or ladies magazine polls or surveys from somebody looking for data from some sort of marketing angle. Its hard to trust these far from impartial surveys. Which is why we are in luck, researchers from Indiana University (Reece, M., Herbenick, D., Sanders, S.A., et. al.) have led some research about vibrator use, one researcher is slightly biased as he works for Trojan but this is about as impartial research as it gets. The research was published in a scientific journal (Journal of sexual Medicine) and the study involved 3000 people in a representative sample of the US.
The results may seem surprising to some as 52% of women and 45% of men report having used a vibrator which is a lot higher than found in other surveys. Women mostly used vibrators for masturbation and least during intercourse on the other hand 40% of men liked to use vibrators during foreplay with a partner and only 7% used it to make themselves orgasm.
The survey found people who used vibrators found it reduced problems with sexual function such as lubrication and orgasm and people who used them frequently had fewer problems.
Those who used vibrators seems quite self aware and had a better awareness of sexual health including having exams and taking part in self-examination, this was true for both men and women. This means that the majority of people do keep their vibrators clean washing them before or after use however 20% of men and 14% of women report never cleaning sex toys so there is some room for sexual health improvements.
It seems vibrators don’t cause many physical problems either. 71.5% of women have never experienced side effects. Some side effects can be numbness reported by 16% but very few people experience pain or swelling.
So with almost half of men and women in the US claiming to have tried a vibrator, who knows what the figures are like in the UK, why not buy your first vibrator today and become part of the statistics. If half of the population in the UK have tried it you might be missing out.
